The 1st ICQ Joint Annual Workshop Successfully Concludes (2011-06-22)

ICQM has successfully held the 1st ICQ Joint Annual Workshop on ‘The World of Hall Physics’ on June 21 and 22, 2011.  This joint workshop series has been designed to better involve the members of three international centers for physics research in China, namely International Center for Quantum Materials (ICQM) at Peking University, International Center for Quantum Design of Functional Materials (ICQD) at Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale and International Center for Quantum Structures (ICQS) at Chinese Academy of Sciences.  While providing an opportunity for idea exchanges and in-depth discussions on particular topics, the workshop alsoseeks to improve collaborations amongst its member entities.

This year, ICQM is very pleased to take the lead in hosting the joint workshop.  Starting with an overview of the classical Hall effects, the workshop, entitled ‘The World of Hall Physics’, covers a whole range of exciting topics related to Hall physics: integer and fractional quantum Hall effects, anomalous and Spin Hall effects, optical, phononic and magnonic Hall effects, as well as transport phenomena in topological insulators.  13 invited speakers gave talks on the above mentioned topics, while several members from ICQM, ICQD and ICQS also took the last session to share their latest research results.   Over 100 participants, including researchers and students from both overseas and domestic institutions, attended the event. 

ICQD and ICQS will take turns to host the joint annual workshop in the following two years in Hefei and Beijing, respectively.
